I hate to see a friendship fail.
Back in the good 'ole days (a few months ago), I had a loving relationship with Postlets. We had such a great time together, we even invited our good friend ActiveRain into the mix. It was a match made in heaven, the three of us sharing our listings together in perfect harmony. We were in love and I thought I'd never have to choose between them.
Recently, I noticed that ActiveRain and Postlets weren't getting along. I shrugged it off as some of the natural growing pains of an internet based relationship, but the divide has seemingly increased. I want them to fall in love with each other, much as I feel in love with each of them, but it seems that my wishes and reality are going two separate directions.
What has come between us?
My guess is coding is the issue between the two. Each one having their own development staff and neither feeling a need to connect with the other. Of course, Postlets has never officially claimed to love ActiveRain like they do that trollop Craigslist. I think he gets around a bit too much if you ask me, but I digress. We're not here to call out Craigslist on his indiscretions, we're here to see if we can't re-kindle the love of my two best friends.
In all seriousness...
It does seem as if ActiveRain and Postlets are not playing well together. First, I noticed the issue with my outside blog when I posted a listing in Highpoint at Westcreek using Postlets. The post looks horrible since the postlet's code layout is wider (somewhere in the neighborhood of 740 I believe, I don't feel like combing through source code right now) than the outside blog's width (somewhere in the 660 range). Of course, as I mentioned, Postlets never claimed to be usable by ActiveRain (their code is meant to be used in Craigslist), but in the past I had no real difficulty with it.
Yesterday, I posted a new listing here on my ActiveRain blog. I didn't bother sending it to my outside blog, because of the messy look that is created with the different widths clashing (although I'm trying to adapt it, I just need to find time to play with code), but now even on my regular ActiveRain blog things appear differently. Now, instead of two neat columns of photos, they are running down the screen in my column with one last photo appearing in the second column at the bottom. I don't know how this happened and it hasn't in the past. Grrrrrr.
I would love it if there was a developer out there that would like to talk to me about an idea for a easy to use listing "flyer" generator like this that I have in mind. Something that takes into account the various sites we use, the blogs we maintain, and the fact that none of the widths are ever the same. The idea in my head is much more than that, but we can talk about that later (don't want to give away all my secrets). I am not the world's best coder and I really just don't have time to do it all myself anyway. I would be willing to provide my vision and plenty of web storage and bandwidth, you supply the coding. Eventually, I see it branching off and becoming a bit more than just a simple flyer generator, but for now, that's where it would begin. No pay, no money, just some hard work and pride in what we do. If it moves in the direction I envision it, I can eventually see a pay model of sorts coming from it, but for now I am just seeking someone with an extreme love for detail and coding.
Can we bring these two ex-lovers together again?
