Yesterday was a day full of hope and promise.

You may have read my post yesterday, titled "Matt Bonner Of The Spurs, Free Ice Cream, And Real Estate - This Saturday!" and thought, "wow, what a great open house that's going to be."  I was excited just writing about it.  I thought about it all the way home...well almost all the way.  I stopped off at the H-E-B on Huebner after work yesterday to pick up a few things.  My wife was getting a ride home from a friend of ours, so I was heading straight home to make dinner.  When I loaded up the car, I put my key in the ignition and...well, nothing.  Just a horrible clicking sound.  No engine, no power.  This had happened to me once before (randomly) and I got the car jumped and it had been fine.  It was months ago that this happened, so I had just about forgotten it ever happened.

I had mentioned it to the King of Honda service, Steve Harwood, at Gunn Honda (14610 IH-10 West, San Antonio, TX 78249 - map) when I was getting some regular maintenance done last week, but nothing odd came up in their tests.  I called my wife and her and our friend stopped into the parking lot and we got the car started.  I took my wife home the rest of the way and all was fine.  I figured it was a fluke, much like the last time.

In a rush this morning, I forgot all about it.

I had been working all morning since about 6 AM, which is my normal routine on a Saturday with an open house.  I posted here, read my email, the usual stuff.  When I realized what time it is and how I wanted the signage to be perfect for this open house, I rushed through my shower and gathered my things.  You know what comes next, don't you?  You guessed it, the car wouldn't start.  So I went to the neighbor's house and asked to borrow some cables (I can't find mine) and ask for a jump.  No one had any.  Luckily, my wife was going out this afternoon with a friend, so we spoke with her and she was going to arrive and give me a jump.  When she arrived, we hooked it all up and let my car juice up.  Except it never did.  Apparently the battery was kaput.  It wouldn't keep enough of a charge for me to get the car started to go to Gunn Honda.

Good thing I paid extra for that roadside assistance.

I called up, got a tow truck sent out to me and away we went.  I wish I had grabbed a card from Henry, my tow truck driver, as he was a great help.  His truck was clean, he was friendly, and I would love to send business his way.  (I think I'll call the roadside assistance company and see if they can give me his info - he was that good.)  Dropped off the car at Gunn and Steve, my Gold Team Service Leader, took me right in.  I wasn't there long and it was all covered under warranty.  The only problem?  It was to late to do my open house.  So I missed what could have been a good day.  Now I hope no one came by with my peanut butter/chocolate ice cream.  If you did, I'll make it up to you.
