ActiveRain helps me get quoted.
Late last week I received a call from California. I had no idea what was waiting for me on the other end of the phone. It was Jenna V. Loceff. She explained she was a reporter for the North Bay Business Journal and wanted to speak with me a bit about social media and real estate. In researching her article, Jenna, had a few mentions of Flickr and while googling away, she came across my article, "A stern warning (or lack thereof) - Flickr is watching you." She asked me quite a few questions and I explained the whole story of what happened between myself and Flickr. We then spent a few minutes talking about real estate and social media in general and parted ways.
On Monday morning, my tweet stream lit up with congratulations and links. I wasn't even 100% sure what everyone was talking about and then, once the sleep cleared from my head, I remembered that Jenna had told me the article would be published on Monday. I found the link in my Twitter stream and clicked on it. There I was. Quoted. The best part is that the article focuses on California, but here I am, all the way in San Antonio being quoted. The article is an interesting find, regardless of my appearance as well. Just look at the chart within the article to see what I mean.
You can read the entire article, "Residential Real Estate: Agents, brokers venture into social networking" online. Stop by and leave some comments. Who knows, Jenna might find you next.

Great results! Keep blogging.
Dear Matt,
Whether it was ActiveRain or my own web site (which is linked to ActiveRain), I too was contacted by a member or the press who interviewed me for a piece in the Bergen Record (NJ). I immediately got congratulations from many of my wife's family who live in NJ (we live in the Poconos, PA) and many others. To establish yourself as the area authority is what gets us the extra exposure to grow our business.
Matt, very cool. Though that chart is surprising, especially that more agents are using MySpace than Facebook and/or Twitter!
One of the best benefits of all the blogging on ActiveRain and beyond is the press coverage that you will eventually get. I've been the beneficiary of that numerous times over the past few years, including a few gigs on national television.
That's the way its supposed to work. Viral media. Put out good content and people will find you.
Great stuff Matt!
But you better slow down. You don't want to use up your 15 minutes of fame so quickly!
Very cool Matt. I've been quoted in our local paper but not in conjunction with social media use for business. Hoping my day will come.
Matt, I have had a few calls form news papers looking to ask questions, but have never been quoted directly. The latest Activerain Bump out of total anonymity seam to be more and more Web-based sales calls "I can help get you on page one"...How did you find my cell #...Its on your Activerain site...I guess I'll take the good with the bad.
Matt - that is so cool! Congrats!! (I wanna be like you when I grow up) ;-)
Hi Matt...Once again, congratulations on getting the media'a attention. Here I am just trying to keep my name out in front at Lake Anna and you're making it in California.
Kate
Congratualtions Matt... It's a great feeling to be found and quoted like that in the media! Rock on!
Congratulations...I have had similiar success - if you check out the front page of my website - there is a video link from when I was featured on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric...all thanks to AR.
Very cool...
