San Antonio's Rockstar Turned Realtor®: A past post reminds me of five great blogging lessons.

A past post reminds me of five great blogging lessons.

Luther Cressman and Mike Nowak discussing volcanic ash stratigraphy during the University of Oregon archaeological excavations at Kukak Bay, Alaska, 1964Sometimes you have to look back.

I was searching for a post that I wanted to send someone today and while looking through the lists of posts, I saw one that I couldn't quite remember.  I knew I wrote it, but I just didn't remember what it said.

Taking a few moments to read through it, I thought it was a interesting look at where my mind was (in this case, on September 16, 2009) and where I was in real estate and more specifically, blogging.

I was just about to hit my one year anniversary at AgentGenius and I was reflecting back on a few things I had learned about blogging in the 359 days previous to that post.  Reading through them, they all still hold true to my efforts today.

The five things I had learned?  1. You don't have to be an English major.  2. Your looks are important.  3. Commenting is crucial.  4. It's not just about real estate.  5. When in doubt, read.

Stop by the post, "5 Things About Blogging I Didn’t Know 359 Days Ago" and see if these still hold true for you today.  Are there other valuable lessons you learned along the way?  Any you'd like to share?

A lot changes for us over time as we  blog.  My posts have evolved, my virtual tours have evolved and it appears even my waist line may have changed.  Perhaps I need to cut out the late night blogging snacks.

Matt-It's been a week and a half of blogging madness...I have blogged about home staging, organizing, market reports and most recently about some "local" events...like the summer concert series in my area along with Farmer's Market info...It's easy for me to blog about real estate related topics but it wasn't until today that I went outside my comfort zone to blog about some local events...I am happy about the way they came out...Your learned items are great...I am reading and reading...and leaving comments that matter...Thanks for Sharing, Jen

Isn't it amazing that most of life's lessons can boil down to so few words!?!

I too have visited the blogs of yesterday and thought to myself, "What the heck was I thinking?"

I enjoy reading some of my old posts...  Others freak me out a little bit.

I have learned to be concise in a blog post. Long rambling posts just don't get read. Each post should have a purpose, and that purpose should be achieved in as few words as possible.

Matt, The five lessons still hold true.  I wasn't commenting when I first got involved in the rain but once I saw how much I could learn from reading, I haven't stopped commenting!
