When was the last time you saw this?
Remember rain? Remember thunder and lightning? I do...just barely. I took this photo last year at the HEB on Guilbeau Rd (near Bandera). It had been a beautiful day, but suddenly as I approached the parking lot, things got dark really fast. If you look off in the distance of the right side of the photo, you can actually see the rain showers coming down to the northwest. I remember standing there in the parking lot for a few moments, just amazed at the power of thunderclouds and how quickly they can form. I wish we could get a few of these to form over my backyard soon. This current drought has been going on for 16 months now in San Antonio and we all could use a few days of rain (although everything is so dry, we need some good slow and steady rain, not the pounding downpour of a thunderstorm like the one in the photo). Quite a change from the rainy Summer of 2007, huh?
If anyone knows any rain dances, please send instructions. I would love to see some green grass this year.

Brother Matt...
We suffered through a drought here for a few years, the rain is welcome. I hope that you get a lot!
What is this rain you speak of Matt? When I saw the pic I thought "wow! was that today?"....thought I missed it. Guess not. Wait s'more we will. KM
Rain? The only rain I have seen in the past 16 months has been ActiveRain.
Brother Richard - I remember your drought well. My mom lives in Cloudland, GA and we talked about it a lot. She's a super avid gardener, so you can imagine her dismay over the drought.
Kristin - Wouldn't it be great if my little post brought about torential downpours tomorrow? I can predict the future. PS The real estate market in San Antonio wil quadruple in sales on February 5, 2009. Unfortunately for Brother Richard, it won't produce those sorts of results in Coweta until February 6, 2009.
Shirley - My wife probably thinks I'm crazy. I'm laughing and typing at the same time. Damn, why didn't I think of that funny line? Would have made a great title.
.... boy Shirley snagged a great line for this post ! lol !
Good luck with the rain - I grew up my entire childhood thinking rain was mandated for 300 out of 365 days of the year ...
Cheers Matt !
Sheldon
The rain is beatiful... in both real life, but even more beautiful in the Rain here : )
Grass?
Green ?
What's that?
Havent' seen the gound since Thanksgiving....lots of snow this year, 46 in so far.
I'd just like to see the street.
I know a couple of rain dance ceremonies you could try, Matt, but they both start with Peyote. I'm not sure I should provide all the details here, or else we could end up with a seriously HIGH group of AR folks! And then... there would be one helluva downpour in San Antonio, Texas! ;-)
We have had a couple droughts that I remember in the Mid-Atlantic, but nothing that's lasted as long as 16 months. That's a long time.
Funny, I complained we didn't get snow, then we got some.... and I complained, because it was too hard to run in. I feel for you Missy.
Sheldon - When my wife and I moved back to PA from CA, we had a particularly rainy summer. She kept saying that we should have just moved back to England. At least in England the rain is expected. Did you see the snow in London? I would love to be walking around town right now, I bet its absolutely beautiful.
Christopher and Stephanie - I like Los Angeles rain the best. For about two weeks you would get rain, get it out of your system and then return to your regularly scheduled program of perfect sunny skies. That's the way to do rain. Forecasters in L.A. were also almost always right. Storm systems could be tracked for miles as they headed for the coast, so there was never any surprises. I miss Glenn "Hurricane" Scwartz and John "Blizzard" Bolaris.
Missy - You could always shovel your yard to get a look at what's under all that snow.
Randy - Me, you, and William S. Burroughs could make a lot of rain that way I'm sure.
Craig - Sixteen months is a ridiculously long time. The summer of 2007 it never stopped raining (I was in Europe during most of it, leaving my wife at home to fend for herself during all of it). I always complained we didn't have snow in PA until I had to shovel it or dig my car out from the ice block thanks to the snow plows covering my car. I hated that.
PS The real estate market in San Antonio wil quadruple in sales on February 5, 2009.
I heart THURSDAY! I'm going home to rest up until then. KM
Kristin - Ooops, I think that was a typo. Let me go back to my crystal ball and check...I'll be riiiiiiiight back. I swear. No really. I will. I mean it. Just wait right here and I'll get back to you. Look....a bear! *Disappears*
Ahh...I remember sitting on the front porch rain gushing from the gutters the smell...can you smell that smell...it smells like victory..oops thats my apocalypse now rant. Do a rain dance Matt we need some rain
We all need rain in this part of the country and it was a nice relief when that brief storm came through last night. I saw that SA got some rain too! And as I said on Kristin's blog I am not a weather channel nerd!!!
Richard - Gutters? What are they? Haha. At least we picked up a little last night.
Russell - I think we got about .25 inches. It was quite a storm though, it blew through fast and furious.
