San Antonio's Rockstar Turned Realtor®: San Antonio finally getting what it deserves.

San Antonio finally getting what it deserves.

Storm clouds loom overhead in San Antonio, TX.

Two days ago, I captured this photo.

I was out getting my haircut (long overdue) and it had been cloudy all day.  When I came out of the shop with my shiny new haircut, the clouds had turned dark and gave off that ominous, foreboding look as if it were about to erupt into a thunderstorm.  It never did.  The forecast wasn't calling for rain, just a build in of humidity from the Gulf of Mexico and a perfect match of jet stream conditions and a cold front from Canada to make the recipe for rain.  Its about time.  We've been entrenched in a drought for far too long.  As you may remember from my previous post on San Antonio's drought, we've been stuck in a rut that seems like it will never end.  Well, my friends - the end is neigh.

The drought won't end, but we'll be better off than yesterday.

The mighty Steve Browne of KSAT News has said this won't be a drought buster and anyone that has been living here in San Antonio would probably agree.  No matter what, its a welcome relief from the constant high pressure cycle we've been in (and as Steve Browne reminds us, "High means dry.").  The biggest concern now is what will happen as the rains come in.  With all this dry land and the oak leaves beginning to fall, you can expect flooding and the usual mess associated with.  As we love to say in Texas, "Turn around, don't drown."  Be careful at low water crossings and if you're in an area prone to flooding - keep your eyes on the rain.  In the meantime, try to stay warm and enjoy the forgotten sight of water falling from the sky.

Matt ~ Congratulations on your much needed rain! Hopefully there will be no worries with flash flooding and you will all be safe!

Hi Matt, We got a little rain this morning but that is it so far in my part of town. I have loved the long stretch of high and dry weather but we really need rain.

I never understand why people try to go through low water crossings.  Every time we have heavy rains we see it on the news... people drowning this way.  Another thing is kids playing in high water and drowning.  The danger is highly publicized and yet people still do it.

My part of the country has been under severe drought conditions for about two years also.  Enjoy the rain - and I hope everything will be green soon since I'm heading your way in a few weeks.

Hi Matt - of all the days to pick to rain, it's the one I have a 7AM meeting and have to be in the streets taking pics of rental properties.  We need the rain though so I won't complain.  I did see quite a few wrecks though!  KM

Terrie - Well since my backyard is mostly dead, I have a feeling I'll lose some top soil, but that's ok.  I wanted to rework it all this summer anyway.

Shirley - I got doused on the 410 for a bit this morning (40 miles an hour), but then its been mostly light drizzle off and on since then.  I'm hoping to see a bit more.  My wife and I were fascinated by the signs when we first moved here...we couldn't understand what they meant.  Until it rained and we watched the news.

Kate - Two years?  Yikes.  I thought we had it bad.  I can't wait to see a bit of green, it feels like its been awhile.

Kristin - Of course you had to do those things today!  That's the way it works.  Did I ever tell of my first ever open house out in Helotes?  I almost quit.

Hi Matt, I can't wait till it starts pouring!  I'm getting tired of all this drizzling.  Hopefully tonight.

Matt - Let it rain !  Let it rain !  Let it rain !  Weather here is going fro 30 to 70 back to 40.  Volatile like the stock market !

Zilkia - I'll be keeping up with Steve Browne tonight to see how it pans out.  The drizzle isn't too exciting is it?  So you work at CBHarper at the 1604 office.  You work with Dan Bender then?  He's actually one of two agents responsible for my move into real estate (he sold my wife and I our house here in San Antonio).

Christopher and Stephanie - We got a bit, just not enough.  They say its still on its way.  I hope it comes soon.  I'm bored of waiting.  As you can guess, I keep up with Philly weather quite a bit through family and friends.  I don't miss the pre-spring ups and downs at all.  Don't know if you're Flyers fans at all, but I caught a bit of the game last night.  Man, I miss those games - I even got into the Preston and Steve box with my wife once...great time.

No, I haven't heard that story!  you should write about it.  I felt much like that today though :D.  Mud on my shoes trying to break into homes, scared of the surroundings, etc. etc. etc.  FUN!

Dude...we are getting old...talking about the weather BUT, it is so good to see some rain! And the haircut thing? I get one every 2 or 3 months, whether I need it or not!

Matt...Its raining here too!!!!  YEAH!  Only problem is I wanted to take the family camping this weekend and its not looking too good. :(  Oh BTW...I looked at my widget today and was watching the ads coming across and clicked on the one that said "search for Killeen homes here" so I clicked on it and it went to a competitors website!  Deleted that right away!  Thanks for the heads up...I probably wouldnt have even noticed!

Hi Matt, Dan Bender is an agent in my office.  I will mention your name when I see him tomorrow.  Guess what!  It's pouring right now.  :-)

Hot-diggity-dog, Matt! Better set out some extra rain barrels, just in in case.   LOL   Better be careful on the road, since everybody down there probably forgot how to drive in the wet stuff.   ;-)

Kristin - Ask and you shall receive.

Russell - I usually get a haircut every two months, but I really should be getting them once a month.  My hair grows too fast.  Man, I can't wait to be bald.  Wait...I take that back.

Tara - It only rains when you have plans.  I'll be getting my widget out of here sometime later today.

Zilkia - It really poured last night.  I think I owe Dan a call, haven't spoken in awhile.  I'll have to check in with him.

Randy - I need some of those fancy rain barrels.  They're expensive though.  I guess first I should concentrate on getting the gutters on the back of my house so I can funnel the water into the barrels.

Send some down our way please.  The cold front finally made it through here just after midnight, but no rain on the island and we really need it.  Of course, the spring break crowd would like not agree.

Matt - It's raining and I hear a little thunder. It's been raining off and on all day at New Braunfels and Canyon Lake.

Posted by CARL & CEIL WINTERS Canyon Lake/New Braunfels /San Antonio (Complete Inspection Service) about 3 years ago

Keith - From the patterns I've been seeing I have a feeling it will float right past you.  Even this is missing us a lot.  The Hill Country seems to be getting more of it.  Grrrrrr.

Carl & Ceil - We got the thunder and lightening last night, but its been pretty clear since afternoon.  They swear we'll get another round of pouring rain tomorrow.  Its actually come down in just the right way - first some light rain, then a break, then some pouring, then back to light rain, and now a break.  I think it will help get it into the ground (and the Aquifer hopefully) instead of just rolling off like most rainstorms after a drought.
